Why Is This Legal?

Virtual Court (vcourts.gov.in) is an official Government of India initiative under the e-Courts Mission Mode Project. The compounding fee schedule is notified by each state government under the Motor Vehicles Act. There is no grey area — this is the government's own mechanism for digital challan settlement at reduced rates.

Common Questions

Everything you need to know before you pay

Is this legal? How can I pay less than the original fine?
Yes, 100% legal. The Government of India operates the Virtual Court system (vcourts.gov.in) under the Motor Vehicles Act. When a challan is unpaid for 60–90 days, it moves to Virtual Court where you pay the official 'compounding fee' — a state-notified rate that is lower than the original fine. This is a government mechanism, not a loophole.
How much can I save?
Typically 30–55% depending on your state and the offence type. A ₹1,000 challan can often be settled for ₹400–₹700. The exact amount depends on the state government's compounding fee schedule.
What challans are eligible for the discount?
Most traffic challans become eligible after 60–90 days in Virtual Court: speeding, signal jumping, no helmet, no seatbelt, lane violations, etc. Non-compoundable offences (drunk driving, hit-and-run, causing injury/death) always require full payment at traffic court.
Do I need to visit any office or court?
No. The entire process is 100% online. Virtual Court is an official digital magistrate — you never need to visit a police station, RTO, or physical court.
How long does the settlement take?
Typically 3–5 working days after payment. We handle the Virtual Court submission process. You'll receive updates via SMS and on your tracking page.
What is your service fee?
We charge 20% of the savings we deliver for you. If we save you ₹500, our fee is ₹100. If a challan isn't eligible for discount, we don't charge extra beyond the discounted fine amount. Minimum fee is ₹99.
What proof do I get after settlement?
You'll receive the official Virtual Court settlement receipt — a government-issued document proving the challan is settled. This is downloadable from your tracking page.
Does this affect my vehicle's RC or insurance?
Settling challans legally clears them from the government record. This helps during RC renewal, insurance renewal, and Pollution Under Control (PUC) checks.
